Moshi Tang
Moshi Tang is a senior from Cleveland, Ohio majoring in physics and music. He studies violin in the Harvard-New England Conservatory dual degree program with Miriam Fried. He is the Bach Society Orchestra’s Music Director for the 2026-27 season, after serving as the orchestra’s Assistant Music Director for the previous two seasons. At Harvard, he has also worked with the Mozart Society Orchestra and Harvard College Opera; this season, he will direct HCO’s production of Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. He is also serving as Assistant Conductor of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra. Since beginning conducting in 2024, he has studied with Charles Peltz and Federico Cortese. As a violinist, Moshi has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in the Midwest, such as the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. He has served as concertmaster of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, playing with conductors such as Daniel Harding and Sir Andrew Davis. Moshi was a finalist in the 2023 National YoungArts Competition and a semifinalist in the International Johansen Competition in 2022. In recent years he has attended music festivals such as the Verbier Festival, the Taos School of Music, the National Youth Orchestra, Chamber Music Northwest, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
2026-2027 Assistant Music Director
Matthew Yar
Matthew Yar is a junior studying Music and Astrophysics, drawn to the transcendent in both the sacred and the celestial. A dedicated church musician, he has served as organ scholar at the Harvard Catholic Forum, St Paul's Harvard Square and the Church of the Advent, studying organ literature with Peter Sykes and David von Behren. He is also an active recitalist across the Boston region, having performed at King's Chapel, Trinity Church, Adolphus Busch Hall and Methuen Memorial Music Hall. Deeply engaged with Harvard's musical life, he has worked on the music staff of numerous theatre, ballet, opera and orchestral productions on campus, and served as Music Director of the Mozart Society Orchestra from 2024 to 2026.
